Well not yet, but this is something that is pretty close to me.
How to help "Stamp" get on the air.
Radio is a nasty beast, but it's a beast I know. These tips should help make your requests be taken seriously.
Do’s:
Always be polite. If a DJ says they don’t have the song, thank them and end the call.
If you email, provide a link to the song streaming online.
Make sure the song fits in with the station’s format. Personalize all communications by mentioning the DJ’s name and/or something you may have heard on their show. This lets them know you are a real listener! However, don’t do this if you really don’t listen to the station.
Don’ts:
Don’t call outside your local area. Nothing pisses DJ’s off more than to think that they are being ambushed by organized fans.
Don’t call or email the same station more than once a day. Don’t email the same DJ more than once a week.
Don’t be confrontational if the DJ’s say no.
Don’t mention you are a big Donna Summer fan. Put the emphasis on how much you like the song. If they think you are street teaming, they will take your request less seriously. Use your real name and don’t send a request from an email address like troyLuvsDonaSumer@yahoo.com. Use a generic email address.
I hope this helps you all out. Be Patient. It works pretty well. Dont stop. This has to be your 2nd job. Kidding. Not really. We need a total of 1000 people telling their friends, if we want a massive hit. Make sure they follow the do's and don'ts. Do not wing it. There is a simple formula for a radio hit. Step by step. haaaa European radio is not my game really, but the Brits should hear it before us yanks. But who knows?
These are the formats you should try (USA only):
CHR/Top 40
AC
Hot AC
Rhythmic AC
Do not call urban (r&b) without an urban radio remix, that is forthcoming.
If you have a format question, let me know.
